Application returned? Here is what to do
A returned Indian passport, OCI, PCC or surrender application can usually be fixed and resubmitted quickly once the reason is clear.
Short answer
Read the reason on the return note, fix exactly that, and check the whole file again before resubmitting, because a second return costs more time. If the reason is only a minor formatting difference, such as writing ON instead of Ontario, the Consulate's acceptance policy says that cannot be grounds for rejection.
The most common reasons
- Photos or signatures that do not meet the current specification
- Old fees after the 1 July 2026 passport fee change
- Missing proof of status in Canada or proof of address
- Names, dates or places of birth that differ between documents
- For children: a missing parent signature, consent or document
- OCI sent by post after 5 April 2026, when OCI became in person only
What to do next
- Keep everything that came back, including the return note and the receipt.
- Do not resend the same file unchanged.
- Fix the stated reason and check every other page against the current checklist.
- If you think the reason is a minor formatting difference, check the acceptance policy.
