Short answer
Yes, Canadians need a visa to visit India, unless they hold an OCI card. Most Canadian travellers use the India e-Visa: an online application on indianvisaonline.gov.in, filed at least 4 days before arrival, with a passport valid for six months and two blank pages. We fill in, check and file your e-Visa for you, with your photo and passport scan prepared to the official rules.
Official site: the only official India e-Visa website is indianvisaonline.gov.in. Look-alike websites charge extra and some file nothing. You can apply there yourself; we are a private agency that files your application on that official site for you, and our fee is separate from the government fee.
Which e-Visa do you need?
| Reason for travel | e-Visa | Government fee for Canadians |
|---|---|---|
| Holiday, family visit, wedding, pilgrimage, yoga retreat | e-Tourist: 1 year or 5 years, multiple entry | US$40 (1 year) · US$200 (5 years) |
| Meetings, trade fairs, business trips | e-Business: 1 year, multiple entry | US$120 |
| Medical treatment in India | e-Medical (patient) and e-Medical Attendant (companion) | US$80 each |
| Conferences | e-Conference | Ask us |
| Work, long study, journalism, other purposes | Regular visa (not an e-Visa) | Ask us |
The government fee is paid online in US dollars and is non-refundable; a bank charge is added at payment. Our Documentation Fee is confirmed by email before you pay.

- Former Indian citizens who leave out their surrender certificate details
- Applications made on copycat websites that charge extra and file nothing
Already hold an OCI card?
OCI cardholders do not need a visa for India. If your OCI needs updating after a new passport, see OCI update and re-issue.
