Short answer
After a new passport, most OCI holders only update their details online, with no new card and no visit. A one-time re-issue is needed if your OCI was issued when you were 20 or younger and you got a new passport after 20; a lost or damaged card needs a duplicate. Re-issues and duplicates are submitted in person at the official application centre since 5 April 2026.
| Your situation | What you need | Government fee (CAD) |
|---|---|---|
| New passport, OCI issued at 21 or older | Online update of passport details | No fee |
| OCI issued at 20 or younger, new passport after 20 | One-time re-issue (in person) | $39 |
| Change of address, name or occupation | Online update | No fee |
| Lost or damaged OCI card | Duplicate OCI with a police report (in person) | $140 |
Government fees are paid to the Government of India at cost. The official application centre adds a service charge of $1.70 per application, and return courier is extra.
